The mood of Mescaline Catechism is largely influenced by nights spent listening to The Residents, Nurse With Wound, Tom Waits, Butthole Surfers; all the punk/hardcore, post-punk, Subterranean label, Netwerk, and a gazillion other bands of similar world-views which cross-pollinated in that era.
For The Residents, it was the second in the Mole Show series that still rings in my head, sometimes. I did not have their videos until relatively recently, but they are gems. Barely any videos exist on youtube, though. But the track below is from the Mole Show. This one will give you _an_ idea of The Residents’ live shows. If you can still find their video collection dvd, you should snap it up; it’s the perfect accompaniment. Even if you don’t care for the music, the videos are weird enough for a great night of tripping.
… Here are some of the tracks from Mark of the Mole:
It’s a real surprise that they have not gotten more hits on youtube, for such a legendary–though admittedly fringe–band.
Not to scare people off even further, but this is another album that I associate with Mescaline Catechism. Well, with that whole era:
“Don’t be naive, darling!”
