Headlines: Canada to withdraw from Kyoto; Canada bans veiled faces at citizenship ceremonies….

How did we get here? A public backlash against a sensational, but otherwise minor, case of manipulation, and now we are here with ten years of Harper, no Kyoto, no Wheat Board, gutting of various social/constitutional programs, and almost complete capitulation of Canadian sovereignty to the US. And screw the Arctic, too, except for the resources we’re gonna plunder from it.

Whatever the Liberal advertising/pay-off scandal was, was the backlash worth what Canada got afterwards?

But then this is not the public’s fault. They have practically no means of lashing out, other than by tossing out the incumbents. And then they’ll do the same with the next guys. And back again. And again. Ad infinitum!

It’s the same merry-go-round (pendulum, actually) which the US public has succumbed to.
